Teaching Philosophy:

I believe that singing is an organic function. Unlike a piano or a flute, which are played outside the body, as a singer you ARE the instrument. I will teach you the physicality of singing.  You will understand how your breath and vocal cords work together to produce sound. You will learn traditional vocal technique which you can then apply to any style of music: from opera and jazz to rock and  pop.

Because no two individuals are alike, I tailor lessons to the unique personal needs and goals of each student. In your musical studies you will develop a sense of confidence in your singing  capabilities as we explore vocal and breathing techniques. You will find that the techniques learned through your singing lessons can be applied to other areas of your life. As you progress in your understanding of fundamental concepts and ideas through exercises, we will begin to incorporate songs into your lessons that best represent your personality and voice.

Voice Lessons:

MUSIC IS ABOUT EXPRESSION. As individuals, we each express emotion in our own unique way. I see vocal music as a universal language which brings everyone together.

"Music is my passion and my way of life."

I enjoy working with students and help him/her grow not only as a singer, but as an artist.

For me to guide you in developing your singing voice, it's important that I gather some initial information about you and how your voice functions. In your first lesson with me, I will ask you to tell me about the kind of music you sing, your musical background, and the vocal issues you'd like help with.

During the lesson I will also ask you to do some basic vocal exercises which will give me a good idea of how your voice currently functions. I may ask you to sing a few lines of any song you know, which will give me some insight about how your voice works in practice. (The actual song you sing doesn't matter at all - it can be Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, the National Anthem or anything.)

After this diagnostic process, I can tell where you are vocally, what needs to be worked on and give you the best repertoire to achieve your goals.
